How to choose right lenses?

In terms of lens materials, the following are main lenses customers can find in the market.

1. Glass lens:

The main raw material of glass lenses is optical glass. Glass has superior optical properties and high refractive index. The higher the refractive index, the thinner the lens. However, the glass is fragile and heavy. For ordinary people, the glass lens is too heavy, and it is not easy to take care of, and it will be broken if it is not good.

2. PVC plastic lens:

The main raw material of pvc plastic lens is thermoplastic material. The raw material is solid, and it is shaped into lens after heating. The PVC lens has low cost, low light transmittance, heat resistance, and flexibility. PVC plastic lenses are generally used for decorative glasses. For people who often use glasses, although the price of PVC lenses is low, it is not recommended for long-term use.

3. Nylon lens:

The material of the nylon lens is transparent polyamide. Due to the special physical properties of nylon lenses, this lens material was originally invented as a material for spacesuit masks, explosion-proof products, and precision instruments. Because of the high price, it is generally used for professional sports goggles and luxury sunglasses.

PS: Many cheap lenses in the market are also advertised as nylon lenses. In fact, the lens material is polyamide and looks like nylon lenses, but they are not.

4. Resin lens:

   Resin lens is a kind of optical lens made of resin, divided into uncoated and coated lenses. Resin lenses are characterized by lightness, good impact resistance, and good light transmission. The water resistance and abrasion resistance of the resin lens have been greatly improved after coating. The resin lens can also use a special coating process to add lens functions, such as anti-UV, anti-blue light, and discoloration. Therefore, 99% of the mainstream lenses sold in optical shops are resin lenses. The cheap ones are ordinary uncoated lenses, which are called “white lenses" in the industry. The coated lenses have different prices according to different processes and functions.
